Unravelling the Carbon Web is a project by PLATFORM. We work to reduce the environmental and social impacts of oil corporations, to help citizens gain a say in decisions that affect them, and to support the transition to a more sustainable energy economy.

What can students do?

RBS needs students – both as potential new customers who then stay for life, and as future employees. The bank invests heavily in targeting students, and reports proudly on its successes to its shareholders. This means that students can play a unique role in forcing RBS out of oil.

If RBS-Natwest's reputation amongst students is sullied by its oil addiction, the bank will have to respond. When students choose not to bank with RBS, and make the bank unwelcome at recruitment events & freshers fairs, it will feel pressure to change.

Tools to pressure RBS include:

* Signing students on to a "Don't bank on oil" pledge

* Persuading existing customers to switch, preferably to somewhere ethical

* Making RBS feel unwelcome in your university - at recruitment events, campus branches & freshers fairs.

Campaign Materials:

We have loads of "Pumping up the Planet" postcards & info booklets about RBS, and "credit card" stickers that can go anywhere. Tell us what you want and we'll send them to you, or print them off yourself.
